No school
Right now my house of dreams is one where no more homework or studying is necessary. Chris does SO much studying, and I wish I could do something to help him out, but I really can't. All I can do is do my own thing while he does his own thing. And I can do that. But I do wish we got to hang out more, you know?
Today I found a list of Christmas activities on a blog. They were such fun ideas. The idea was to put them in an advent calendar, then do the activities each day.
I thought, "I have an advent calendar! I should do that!" But then I realized we probably wouldn't have time. But oh well. Christmas 2012, get ready for some FUN. These are the ideas she wrote:
Go Ice Skating
Watch It's a Wonderful Life, make spiced cider.
Exchange gifts
Make Christmas Cookies for friends.
Find Mistletoe, hang it in our house and kiss under it.
Address and Mail Christmas Cards
Go to Borders and Pick out one new Christmas CD.
Go to The Nutcracker
Handel's Messiah Sing Along
Leave out wooden shoes on December 5
Go to the Oakland Temple to see the Nativity (for me I would substitute Oakland with Salt Lake)
Make Thick Hot Chocolate and Homemade Marshmallows
Host a Christmas Sweater Party
Put up a ribbon sash for Christmas cards
Donate canned goods
Give neighbors a present
Put up a wreath
Make a Gingerbread house
Make a popcorn garland
Make hot chocolate and read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
Sing (or listen) to favorite Christmas songs
Drive around to see neighborhood lights
Go out and see public light display
Read Christmas story from the Bible and the Book of Mormon
Open a gift (new stocking or pajamas or pillowcase)
Make a family traditional dessert
Eat out at a festive restaurant
Go to a seasonal movie
Tell stories of childhood Christmas around the fire
Have a romantic candlelit dinner by the Christmas tree
Make decorative sugar cookies
Sign up to purchase gifts for a needy child
Host a Christmas dessert party
Write out a Christ-centered goal to start early for the New Year
Have a movie party (classic Christmas clips)
Go to a Christmas Concert
Attend City tree lighting event
Have a full traditional breakfast while listening to Christmas music

New blogs I like
I sort of hate blogs that make me want to replace every item of clothing I have, but oh well. Actually these don't make me feel TOO much like that, but a little bit.
This one is by a cute girl at BYU-Idaho.
And this one is also by a cute girl at some school.
So there you go.
They also make me want to grow my hair out, but I need to just keep reminding myself of the fineness of my hair and resist that urge.

Mercury glass posts
So I really want to try and make some glass jars and votives into mercury glass. So I'm going to collect posts I've found about making your own mercury glass look here.

This isn't pretty, I just want to remember it because it's funny
"Why did I propose to Kate Middleton? My hairline was like, "uh-oh, lock that shit down!", so I did."
This is from Mindy Kaling's Twitter.
I was reading a blog where someone said they were grateful for her Twitter, so I started reading it and now I'm grateful for it too.

wall mouldings
So my heart basically stopped beating when I saw this room on Design Sponge today.
I think all it would take to make me blissfully happy for the rest of my life is some decorative wall mouldings and a beautiful wall color. Also a couch with a chaise lounge. But that's it, seriously. Forget the fact that I have an entire blog dedicated to stuff I want.
But really. They are so great. I was watching HGTV Design Star the other day and they did this . . . let me look for it. Found them. Isn't this room great? Well, it's actually a studio apartment, but that's basically like a room.

A shift in what I want
So for years, I have wanted to live in houses and neighborhoods like these:
But lately, I'm finding the idea of that less attractive than it used to be. And now I'm wanting something a little more like these:
I don't know what it is. It could just be a fad of my brain. Or it could be that I really just need SPACE. For the last few years, every time I've driven to Salt Lake, I'm overwhelmed by all the housing developments that have cropped up there in the last . . . how many? 10 years, I'd say. I'm still not used to the new Lehi, or how crowded the south part of Salt Lake valley is getting. I don't want to live in a cookie cutter neighborhood where every house has just small variations from one another and they're only 10 feet apart. It's Californication, is what it is. And I'm not a fan.
It could also be that I have this sort of vision of me living in a farm house, and it seems so nice and romantic. Let's see if I can convey it using polyvore. Lots of people do that on the internet, right? Convey things using polyvore?
Let me take you on a little tour. If I lived in a farm house, we'd of course have a big beautiful willow tree, and I could sit under it and write letters to my friends in the city, saying, "You've got to come for a visit! The kids would love to see you!" I would make homemade jam to spread on my homemade bread, and I would feed the chickens every morning. I would wear a cozy cardigan and floral prints, and of course have Hunter green wellies accessible. It really does sound nice. And I like the idea of 6 pairs of little boots cluttering the entryway, too. We'll see. But for now, that is my fantasy.
Better After
I found a cool new blog, Better After. And it's just full of Before and Afters of great projects. I love stuff like that.
Plus, would you look at THIS? Be still my heart.

This makes me want to immediately buy any piece of furniture I can find with decorative moulding and make it blue.

Kid's room
Found here.
I LOVE the blue stripes on the ceiling! I love the idea of doing something interesting on the ceiling of a nursery, because the baby will actually see it! And that wall of books is GENIUS. I love having them all displayed, it would make it a lot more fun to choose a book to read.

Office
LOVE THIS. I would love it even more if a couple of those frams had silhouettes in them though.
I used to think that all I wanted was this office
Because one time I read a thing in Domino about a pink office and I LOVED it. But the blue might suit me better.
Oh, but that pink . . . it's hard to say. When I get an office I'll let you know.

Oh Em Gee.
Ok, I look at Design Sponge every day. Really, every day. And if I miss a day I scroll down and see what I missed.
So I see a lot of sneak peeks into people's houses. I usually like them. Sometimes I'm a little more meh and sometimes a little more OH MY GOSH. But it's been a long time since I REALLY, REALLY loved one. And here it is.

It goes without saying that I love this turqouise wall, but combined with the black and whit headboard? Amazing. And then the pink bedding? LOVE IT. I love all the crisp lines and bold colors.
This is totally a color scheme I want to have. Because it is calm while still being happy and bright. I want a grey couch SO badly, the dark green one we're stuck with is pretty hard to work around.
I love the idea of displaying the jewelry on the wall. And whatever is on the floor, I don't know if it's a rug or just awesome tile, I love it. And again, this is so perfectly bright and happy without feeling little kid-ish or school-ish or weird.
Those green benches/ottomans are giving me a heart attack. I just can't get over how much I love the greys and the creams mixed with pink and green.
No need to explain myself here.
And again with the pink! I just love it. And I love that mirror too, I'm really into shapes like that.
So, wow. I'm pretty sure this is going to play a major role in my life. For realsies.

Welp
So I guess nothing has really inspired me lately.
But I do know this: I'm getting sick of that Jake Gyllenhall pic below. It's sort of an embarrassing thing to have at the top of your blog.
Plus it comes up right next to the music player, and that has become my main reason for visitng my blog lately.
SO. This post is in hopes that I made it long enough to push Jake down below the music.
Cool story Hansel.

This has nothing to do with my crush on him, I just think it's funny

Did you believe me? Fool.
But really, I love that there are paparazzi pics of him cracking up while eating. Alone. That's the kind of guy you can feel good about having a celebrity crush on, you know?
I found it here, but apparently it's been all over the place.

English country house

This is from Design sponge. Found here.
These people are amazing. They have a tent in their backyard that they spend all their time in during the summer.
This is my new dream. I love the idea of outdoor living in the summer, and something like this would be so amazing.
